Members of the Sun Labs group join Polaris PowerPC Project
From Blastware.org:
Members of the Sun Labs group have joined the Polaris PowerPC port project. The target hardware from Genesi has been generally reviewed and found to be both open in its design and easy to work with. The primary objective at this time is to attain a bootable OpenSolaris kernel with a shell. The Solaris 2.5.1 PPC code is being made available to /company/community members for this task.
The first components to tackle will be the GRUB2 bootloader, the virtual memory management architecture, the real time linker and of course a reasonable approach towards rapid development concerns. There may be a need for different strategies for kernel vs userland and for small processes vs large processes. The thought that a single kernel can be rapidly developed that will address the needs of a small embedded space as well as large scale massively parallel systems is under investigation. However the initial focus will be on a running kernel with a reasonable process management philosophy.
